Read of the Week – Corn Belt Opportunities or Bubble

As land hit a record $20,000 per acre in western Iowa this fall, the question is all over the national media – is this the next bubble? The December 2011 issue of the American Banker magazine explores that issue with the article “Fertile Ground.” Looking at income and land prices across the Midwest the article talks to bankers and economists about the outlook on crop prices, land valuation and what it means for community banks. Opinion is divided whether land is priced right or over-valued. What do you think?
